5 Ways To Unlock Your Smile’s Power

Although it’s hard to quantify, we all know the way a warm smile makes us feel.  Whether it’s from the pages of People magazine or when we meet a stranger on the street, a smile speaks to us. A few years ago,  Hewlett-Packard ran a study that attempted to quantify the effect of a friendly grin. Researchers measured a “mood-boosting value” to several stimuli with an electromagnetic brain scan machine and heart-rate monitor.  Subjects reviewed photos of friends, family and loved ones smiling and were also given money and chocolate. According to the researchers, participants showed a child’s smile underwent the same level of stimulation as if they had eaten 2,000 chocolate bars!

No matter how you measure it, enhancing your smile produces a list of benefits. It’s worth considering five ways to transform yours to see if there’s one that would work for you.  Here are a few things to discuss with us at your next visit:

1. Teeth Whitening

The quickest way to dramatically improve your smile is by removing years of yellow stain from your teeth.  Tobacco, coffee, tea, wine, and other dark substances embed into enamel and slowly alter the color over time.  Medications or even your genetic predisposition can affect tooth color. So even if your teeth are aligned and shaped nicely, a dull hue detracts from your facial features.

Several factors need evaluation before whitening to ensure the right system matches your situation and desired outcome.  We’ll help you choose a solution that will give you the best result...a whiter, brighter smile.

2. Reshaping/Polishing

Your teeth are as unique as your fingerprint and should reflect your personality.  But one thing is universal: they should be harmonious with each other.  Symmetry in nature creates a pleasant appearance to the eye.  And symmetrical smiles appeal visually too.

Subtle, precise reshaping and polishing of teeth can produce an immediate confidence boost in your smile.  And when combined with whitening, the result can be an exciting, low-cost option to better-looking teeth.  If teeth look and feel better...so do you!

3. Veneers

Veneers blend dental art and science, handcrafted to fit your smile uniquely.  Ultra-thin pieces of porcelain bond to the surface of your teeth, producing a stunning Hollywood makeover. But don’t let the thinness of this material fool you. Modern ceramic technology replicates any look you want to create with unmatched strength and durability.

While veneers provide a conservative way to repair bad teeth, the skills behind the process require an advanced level of training to deliver. At Seattle Dental Studio, our passion for exceptional craftsmanship drives us to continue learning and applying the latest techniques with the most proven materials.

4. Straightening

Adults often make the most dedicated orthodontic patients, and it’s never too late to discuss the options for a bright, straight smile.  If you’re not convinced wire braces fit your style, we have great news for you.  Invisible methods produce excellent results in many cases and have little effect on your lifestyle.  We’re experienced helping adults find the best way to put their teeth in place. To top it off, you may be surprised at how quickly teeth can be straightened compared to traditional methods.

Orthodontic care combines beauty and function for permanent changes that pay dividends throughout life. Straighter teeth also produce a healthier mouth by eliminating crowded, overlapped hiding places that trap bacterial plaque.  Orthodontic treatment can also be combined with other cosmetic enhancements, such as whitening or veneers.

5. Bonding

Dental bonding with resin works magically to eliminate frustrating problems.  Annoying gaps between teeth and chips or ragged edges in your smile disappear when these modern materials are sculpted into place.

Composites sculpted and polished to a lustrous shine blend into your smile, leaving an undetectable solution to a range of dental dilemmas.  Modern composites resist stain and chipping well, although they may need replacement after a few years.  Fortunately, bonded composite gives you a quick, cost-effective solution that’s reasonably easy to maintain.
